Rise in online prenuptials Couples taking on prenuptial agreements with their wedding vows have increased by almost 500 per cent in the last few years, recent research suggests.

With around half of all first marriages ending in divorce, more couples are seeing the financial prudence of agreeing a divorce settlement before the marriage even begins.

Although going to a lawyer for your contract to be drawn up could cost over £1,000, many online providers can offer a much cheaper deal, according to research from More Than.

Divorces from second marriages can make complications in the distribution of assets, especially if there is a significant difference between your wealth and that of your partner.

More Than explains: "Your assets could be granted to people you don't expect, such as children from your spouse's previous marriage instead of your own children."

Figures from the Office of National Statistics show an eight per cent decrease in the number of people seeking divorces, but the process is still a lengthy and often costly one.

And with a study conducted by the Harvard Law School recently finding that a good prenuptial agreement can increase the chances of a successful marriage, who can afford not to sign?
